COLD WEATHER AND NORTH WIND CONTRIBUTES TO SLOW CATCHING

During our down time before we start back up on March 10^th some of our guys continue to stay on the water throwing Corky, DOA and Hackberry Hustler and gulp lures. Fishing has been very slow on the south end of the lake but if you venture on down to the Cameron Jetties the outside west rocks are holding line stretching redfish on the big side. Some flounder have been reported back in oyster bayou and are being caught bouncing chartreuse curly tail gulp on the bottom. As the water begins to warm up fishing will improve. Famous Charter boat Captain Sam Crutchfield from Fort Pierce Florida has been coming to Hackberry Rod & Gun every year for the past 25 years. The fishing Hall of Fame nominee first came to southwest Louisiana as a guest and never looked back. He continues to be drawn back by the great duck hunting and saltwater fishing in Southwest Louisiana. Captain Sam has penned a collection of his experiences here in a very special book that is now available to the public. These are his favorite stories and trips with guides and friends that you will surly enjoy.

THIS WEEKS YUMMY RECIPE

CAJUN SHRIMP CASSEROLE

Ingredients

1 pound of large shrimp
2 cans whole tomatoes, drained and chopped
1 peeled eggplant, chopped
1 large onion, chopped
1 large bell pepper, chopped
3 or 4 medium zucchini, sliced in rings.

Directions

In a large frying pan add the following: eggplant, onions, bell peppers, tomatoes, zucchini. Smother down, add peeled shrimp then transfer to a greased casserole dish. Sprinkle a lot of Parmesan cheese on top. Bake at 350F for 30 minutes. Season with HR&G seasoning. (call Pauline 888.762.3391)
