FAMILY AND FRIENDS HEAD NORTH TO BLAST SOME SANDHILL CRANES Every year during the duck season split what do duck hunters do ? ? ? – They go hunting DUH – A group of us for the second year in a row headed north to Lubbock Texas to hunt Sandhill Cranes. They were no contest for the sharp shooting dead eye hunters from Louisiana. After three days of blasting away at the “flying ribeye’s in the sky” all of us are ready to head back next year. 1/4 tsp onion salt or 1/2 tsp dried minced onion or 2 to 3 green onions, finely chopped
1 tbs left-over stewed (cooked) squash or cream style corn
2 eggs
Instructions
Hard boiling water
Mix dry ingredients together. Break eggs on top of mix and stir well. Add hard boiling water a little at a time while stirring until it forms stiff mush (should be stiff enough to stick to spoon). Drop round ice tsp of batter into hot grease after cooking fish. Use second spoon to push batter off.
Keep cup of water handy to keep spoon damp so batter doesn’t stick. The secret is the water must be hot enough to cook the corn meal. The grease just crusts the outside of ball to golden brown.
You can always go back and add more water (be sure it is boiling if you do) but you don’t want it too liquid. It won’t hold together when it hits the grease.
Here is the secret – – Get yourself a bottle of WOW WEE spicy dipping sauce, It is the best I have ever seen for dipping specialty items like hush puppies. Let me know how you like it.
