We are still very interested and involved in these two bills moving through the Louisiana legislature. Here is the latest action as reported by the Louisiana Charter Boat association. 

 

Pogie Boat Bills
HB 535 – By Rep. Joseph Orgeron
Intent: Would prohibit menhaden harvest within 1/2 mile of shore and greater distances in certain areas with no sunset.
Status: Re-scheduled to be heard in the Senate Natural Resources Committee Tuesday at 9 a.m. after being postponed from originally being scheduled to be heard earlier this week.
HB 551 – By Rep. Mack Cormier
Intent: Would prohibit menhaden harvest within 1/4 mile of the shore and greater distances in certain areas for three years or until LDWF completes a study on menhaden bycatch.
Status: Will not become law. Voluntarily withdrawn by Rep. Cormier.
 
License Bill
HB 691 – By Rep. Tony Bacala
Intent: Would increase LDWF license fees. Many of the figures will be altered as this bill moves through the legislative process, and LCBA has had several meetings and conversations with LDWF regarding altering some of the figures.
Status: Scheduled to be heard in the Senate Natural Resources Committee Tuesday at 9 a.m.

CAJUN PORK JAMBALAYA

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds pork meat, cubed
  • 2-1/2 cups rice, uncooked
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup bell pepper, chopped
  • 1/2 cup celery, finely chopped
  • 2 pods garlic, finely chopped
  • HR&G Seasoning to taste ( Pauline toll free 888.762.3391)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup green onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon sage
  • 4 cups water

Directions

Season meat the day before cooking and refrigerate. In heavy pot using 1/4 cup vegetable oil, cook meat until dark brown. Add sugar, if it doesn’t brown well. Add onions, bell pepper, celery and garlic. When vegetables are sauteed, add water and simmer for about 30 minutes. Add rice, green onions and parsley Cook on low heat for about 25 to 30 minutes with the cover on as tight as possible. You may stir occasionally.
