CAJUN SHRIMP BREAD

A South Louisiana favorite featuring French bread loaded with shrimp, cheese, and a creamy Cajun filling. It’s easy to make, easy to eat, and always disappears fast.

Serves: 6–8 

Ingredients 

  • 1 loaf French bread  
  • 1 pound small Gulf shrimp, peeled and chopped  
  • 2 tablespoons butter  
  • 1/2 cup diced onion  
  • 1/4 cup diced celery  
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced  
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened  
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese  
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese  
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning  
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder  
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions  

Instructions 

  1. Preheat oven 
    Heat oven to 375°F.  
  2. Cook the filling 
    Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add onion and celery and cook 4–5 minutes. Add garlic and cook 1 minute.  
  3. Add shrimp 
    Stir in shrimp and cook just until pink, about 2–3 minutes. Remove from heat.  
  4. Mix the filling 
    In a large bowl, combine cream cheese, cheddar, mozzarella, Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, and green onions. Fold in the shrimp mixture.  
  1. Prepare the bread 
    Slice French bread lengthwise and hollow out some of the center.  
  1. Fill and bake 
    Spread shrimp mixture evenly into the bread. Place on a baking sheet and bake 15–20 minutes until hot and bubbly.  
  1. Serve 
    Let cool for a few minutes, slice into pieces, and serve.
